Review – TomTom GO 720 GPS Global Positioning System
Today I will review the TomTom GO 720 4.3 Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Navigatortomtom+720&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]" alt="" />. Global positioning satellite (GPS) units have changed the way we drive today. No longer do you need to fight with foldout maps to determine your route. Today, with the push of a few buttons you can plug your start point and destination and wind up with the best route to take. If you haven’t tried a GPS before, I highly recommend getting one. If you already have, then you know what I’m talking about.
The TomTom GO 720 4.3 inch is a top quality GPS unit. One distinct advantage to the TomTom is “MapShare.” MapShare allows you to tap the screen a few times and correct for any street closures you might encounter that are not indicated on your map. And if you connect to the TomTom Home software, you will be able to share this information with all other TomTom owners, and get their information as well. One thing I’d like to see upgraded, is for MapShare to tell you what has been updated. Currently, it only tells you that “updates were applied.”
Another helpful feature for longer trips is the weather checker. The TomTom will give you current weather conditions for your destinations. Not so important for the local routes, but very helpful when you’re planning a trip in winter weather.
The status bar on the TomTom GO 720 give you a lot of relevant information. It will tell you your ETA, how much further you have to go, when you are expected to arrive, and your current speed and the current time. The spoken directions give you real street names in a clear and easy to understand voice.
The 720 also includes an MP3 player and photo viewer; along with an integrated FM transmitter which gives you directions and plays your music through your cars stereo system.
The TomTom GO 720 has millions of POIs, or Points of Interest. These can be customized so that you see only the categories which you are interested in. Having this feature while you are traveling can ensure that you don’t miss anything.

Another of my favorite features is the ability to choose routing options. You can select if you want the shortest distance or fastest route. You can get a pedestrian route or a bicycle route. This makes the GPS unit indispensible if you are travelling. The TomTom GO 720 comes with up to date maps for the US and Canada. If you are up for a road trip, make sure to bring along your GPS.
