GPS For Cars

If you haven’t already tried one, get your hands on a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) unit.  It will change your life.  No more need for foldable paper maps…  No more concerns about getting lost…  GPS units can make anyone’s life easier.  Today I will review the Garmin nüvi 265WT Bluetooth Navigator with Integrated Traffic Receiver.

One of the most attractive features about this unit is the free traffic alert function.  Yes there are some advertisements, but not many and they aren’t terribly intrusive, and there are no ads if you turn off the traffic feature.

The Garmin nüvi 265WT has an amazingly fast satellite acquisition time.  The initial acquisition takes a few minutes, but after that it is quite speedy.  The unit I tried was ready to go in seconds.

As with most of the Garmin units, the screen is clear and bright.  The directions are great, and the re-routing function works very well.  Of course, there are some areas, particularly those that are more rural, where you might run into some odd directions or missed roadways.  But this is becoming less common as more and more of the country has been mapped.

The Bluetooth function is easy to use.  I haven’t experienced any problems with voice distortion. If your phone has voice dialing you can do it through this GPS unit which is very nice.

As for the speaker, many people have complained that the speaker volume is too low.  I haven’t experienced that problem.  Of course, it’s not a high quality speaker, but the directions are perfectly audible, and neither I nor the people I have called using my bluetooth connection have had any issues.  One of the most important issues is that you have to turn down the volume on your radio in order to hear the directions clearly.  But to me, that’s a no-brainer.

The only real issue that I have with the Garmin nüvi 265WT is the thick power cables that hang down from the unit.  Since I don’t mount it high, it’s not a huge inconvenience, but I could see that it might be a problem if you were to mount the unit high on your windshield.

Overall this is a very good unit for the price.  And if you don’t want to pay for traffic alerts, and don’t mind a little advertising here and there, the Garmin 265Wt Bluetooth Navigator Integrated Traffic Receiver is definitely the way to go!
