Review – Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS Global Positioning System
I am a huge fan of Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology. Personally, I think it’s time for everyone to have this technology. No more need for maps. No more need to rely on the kindness of strangers by asking for directions. A GPS can tell you where you are and how to get to where you want to be. Today I will be reviewing the Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

One of my favorite features on the 255 is the top line navigation indicator. At the top of the display, the 255 interface has a green line which is your navigation information. On the left side it gives you distance until your next turn; for example, if you are making a right in 1.25 miles it will show you “1.25 m” followed by a right arrow. This takes up about a third of the navigation line. The remaining two thirds is dedicated to the street name onto which you are turning.
Another really useful function is displayed at the bottom right of the display screen. The nuvi 255 indicates your estimated arrival time at your destination based on your current speed and the remaining distance. This allows you to advise anyone you might be meeting on the other end of your trip if you are going to be early or late. It also allows you to figure out if you have enough time to make a pit stop along your route.
The Garmin nuvi 255 also has the “Where AM I” function that Garmin includes in all of it’s nuvi products. This function tells you where you are by identifying the nearest address and intersection. It will also show you the nearest gas stations, along with police stations and hospitals.

Overall this is a great, basic unit. It’s relatively inexpensive and easy to use. The readout is clear and easy to understand. The only real issue I have with this unit is that you have to buy an add-on for live traffic updates.
